Crash investigators have managed to download data from the flight data recorders recovered from the doomed Egyptair MS804 wreckage.
The aircraft vanished from radar screens on May 19 last, while en route from Paris to Cairo. Investigators now hope to piece together what brought the airliner down so quickly and suddenly.
Investigators said that “Preliminary information shows that the entire flight is recorded on the FDR since its takeoff from Charles de Gaulle airport until the recording stopped at an altitude of 37,000 feet where the accident occurred.”
Initial testing on recovered wreckage seems to confirm the presence of smoke on board shortly before the crash. Some parts of the fuselage have been found to contain soot and damage consistent with high temperature, which may suggest a blaze on board the aircraft.
