Tensions remain at an absolute fever pitch level throughout the United States, and the shooting dead of Rayshard Brooks certainly has not helped the situation.
An Atlanta police officer has been fired after the killing of yet another black man in the US.
The victim, identified as 27-year-old man Rayshard Brooks, was shot at a Wendy’s car park as he attempted to flee from police.
A video has emerged of Mr. Brooks wrestling with two police officers before running away. At this point, one of the officers discharged his firearm. Mr. Brooks died in hospital later. The second officer present at the scene has been put on administrative leave.
Officers had been called to the scene after reports of a man sleeping in his car. The killing sparked renewed violence and the Wendy’s restaurant nearby was burned down.
Atlanta’s Chief of Police Erika Shields resigned shortly after the killing became known.
