Tesco announce they’re cutting the price of bread along with cutting the price of butter

Tesco has slashed the price of its own brand bread days after supermarkets sparked a butter price war.

Tesco will cut the price of its own-brand bread by 10 cents a loaf from tomorrow – and rival retailers could be in for a treat, reports The Mirror.

It comes as the price of butter fell by 40 cents on the market last week.

Consumers are suffering because grocery inflation is higher than overall inflation, and large supermarkets are repeatedly advised to cut prices, reports The Mirror.

Over the past week, modest reductions have been seen in the costs of some essential dairy products, such as milk and butter.

From tomorrow, Tesco own brand white 800g slicing pans are now 89 cents, 10 cents off 99 cents and the corresponding discounts apply to all other Tesco own brand slicing pans.

Announcing bread was the latest front in what could become a price war, Natasha Adams, CEO, Tesco Ireland said: “It’s been an incredibly tough year for many of our customers, and we have been determined to try and alleviate that pressure. We are extremely conscious of the cost of living challenge being experienced by our customers, which is why we are moving to reduce the cost of another daily staple,” reports The Mirror.
