The cost of speeding: New figures show that the Gardai spent €1.2m per month on private speed camera operators




New figures have been released today showing the grand total that Gardai spent on hiring a private company which operates a system of mobile speed detection cameras.

The figures which were released under the Freedom of Information Act show that Gardai spent €1.2m in total per month on the system which is operated by GoSafe.

According to the report the comapny which operates 50 speed detection vehicles across the country recieved a staggering flat rate payment of €45,000 per month for operational costs which didn’t include the surveying of vehicles.

The company which held the contract for six years until May of this year were also paid the total of €151.79 per hour for speed monitoring, along with a further €144.40 per hour to survey footage.

It also stated that GoSafe provideed over 7,37o hours of speed monitoring each month.
