Some politicians around Clonmel in Co. Tipperary have been claiming that there are nefarious forces at work in the town, and that their election posters have been taken down and replaced with those of their rivals in the race to the trough.
Members of Sinn Féin in the town say that five billboards and a number of their posters for their candidate Seanie Morris were stolen and replaced with material for another candidate last Monday night.
It is understood that a trailer belonging to Independent candidate Mattie McGrath was also taken, along with his posters.
The face and political allegiance of this fly-by-night candidate has not been revealed.
As the campaign enters its last stretch this week, tempers are likely to flare across flashpoints around the country, and deeds like this only highlight the desperation of certain political camps to persuade voters
