The first social welfare cost of living benefit will start to be paid to recipients today

The first social welfare benefit announced in the budget will be paid to thousands of people today.

The cash hike was announced as part of the 2023 budget when the government allocated €1.2 billion in lump sum spending to help people with the cost of living.

Thousands of people across the country will benefit from better social protection in the days and weeks to come.

It will begin today, Monday 17 October, when a double payment of the cost of living will be granted to the beneficiaries of welfare. This will affect 1.4 million people.

Retirees, caregivers and another 1.4 million people will receive cash bonuses towards the cost of living on Monday, when the government pays double the Halloween welfare benefits.

The Christmas Bonus will be paid in the week starting December 5th.

The double pension will see a pensioner reach €500 next week, or a couple of €1,000 a week, with the same double defeat for him and all other welfare recipients in December.

The increases come as the nights begin to approach and become colder, with the poorest and most vulnerable facing ever-increasing energy bills in the weeks and months to come.

Payments dates

Further payments will be made on the following days:

October 17: double autumn instalment for social beneficiaries. 1.4 million are expected to benefit.

November 1: doubling of the family allowance. This will benefit 639,000 families for 1.2 million children.

November 14: €400 flat-rate fuel allowance. This will benefit 371,000 people.

November 14: Working Family Payment beneficiaries will receive a lump sum of €500.

November 14: Subsistence allowance of €200. This will benefit 234,000 people.

November 14: € 500 Lumps sum rate for beneficiaries of: Disability allowance; Disability pension; blind pension

November 21: Lump-sum payment of €500 for the beneficiaries of the support contribution

December 5: Double Christmas Bonus: This will benefit the same 1.4 million people who should benefit from the double fall payment

Thousands of payments

Thousands more families will benefit from a €400 fuel allowance increase in just a few weeks as the cost of living crisis continues to take its toll.

The extra boost will see anyone eligible for the fuel allowance receive a total of € 1,324 during the winter season, as the government is quick to help with rising fuel costs.

Welfare recipients will receive an increase in money in the coming weeks with six lump sum payments due.

As confirmed in the 2023 Report, thousands of welfare recipients are waiting for a further injection of money in an effort to ease the pressure as the cost of living crisis continues.
