The Food Safety Authority of Ireland are appealing to members of the public to boil all imported frozen berries before eating them.

The FSAI have reissued the warning again this year after the same warning was issued last year, when a food poisoning outbreak of the Hepatitis A virus – linked to imported frozen berries – was first identified in Ireland.

It is understood that 1,440 cases have been reported in twelve European countries to date, the majority are believed to be in Italy.

A reported 25 cases were in Ireland 21 of which were confirmed. The FSAI said people should boil the berries for a least one minute before they consume them.
