The Great Irish Water Failure: Up to 200,000 residents still without water after ancient pipe burst in Meath -people have been told situation will remain until the weekend at least

Success is not a word that anyone would associate with Irish Water. The wretched utility has been mired in disaster after disaster from the beginning.

The latest is the dire situation faced by hundreds of thousands of residents in the north east of the country, after a burst main pipe left large swathes of land without running water.

The pipe in question, which is over 50 years old, sprung a giant leak days ago, and all attempts to fix it have so far proved unsuccessful. Due to the pipe’s age, a custom-made fitting has had to be manufactured.

In the meantime, businesses have temporarily closed, and the lives of thousands have been disrupted due to Irish Water’s inaction. A local councillor has claimed that the company were made aware of the state of the pipe last year, but nothing was done about it.
