The homeless Irishman who died on the streets has still not been formally identified

The identification of a guy who passed away while sleeping on the streets of Dublin city centre is still being investigated by charities and homeless services, reports RTE.

The body of the man was found early yesterday morning at the former tourist office, located at the old church on St Andrew’s Street.

Employees in the vicinity claim that rough sleepers occasionally spend the night in the now-vacant old tourist office building or on St Andrew’s Street, reports RTE.

The Dublin Region Homeless Executive (DRHE) said in a statement to RTÉ’s Morning Ireland that it had been in contact with gardaí and was waiting for identification verification before determining whether or not the guy was known to homeless services.

The man “looked to be sleeping rough,” according to the Department of Housing yesterday.

“This is a tragedy and we extend our sympathies to the family and friends of the individual concerned. It is important to establish the circumstances involved, and that our response is based on the best knowledge and evidence available,” a department spokesperson added, reports RTE.
