Motorists get off speeding fines after speed van operaters couldn’t turn up in court due to being sick

Due to the absence of two-speed van operators from court due to illness, many drivers were spared speeding fines, reports The Mirror.

At Letterkenny District Court in County Donegal, a number of cases being prosecuted by Gardai utilising the GoSafe speed vans were scheduled to be heard.

Judge Éiteáin Cunningham was forced to dismiss the proceedings, though, because two of the three operators who were supposed to testify were unable to appear in court, reports The Mirror.

According to testimony, Garda Sergeant Gerard Dalton stated that the drivers on each occasion were exceeding the speed limit.
