The HSE claims 50,000 children have been registered to be vaccinated

The HSE Health Service Executive has opened the vaccination registry for children from 12 to 15 years old.

The latest figures claims that more than 50,000 children have been registered in this cohort.

HSE chief Paul Reid said many have already received appointments for this weekend.

Parents and legal guardians can now register for a Covid-19 vaccine for their children with the vaccine at an HSE vaccination center or participating pharmacies or general practitioners.

Parental or legal guardian consent is required during online registration or at the vaccination centre.

The HSE said it will try to make it easier for parents working with later dates.

He encouraged parents to review all vaccination recommendations for this group, decide what is best for children, and discuss the vaccination process with them.

About 280,000 children can be vaccinated with a Pfizer or Moderna vaccine.
