While we get drenched in soaking rain, Spain and Portugal are currently experiencing unusually high temperatures for this time of year.

Highs of 42.9C were registered in some eastern areas of the country, easily topping the previous record of 40.1C.

Portugal also saw a May record, with the southern city of Beja melting under 40C heat on Wednesday.

Some areas of the Canary Islands have also registered highs of over 42C, so if you’re lucky enough to be travelling there soon, make sure to pack a good sun cream.
