Gardaí say they cannot release any details about a 14-year-old in Dublin who has given birth to her second child.
The news comes after wide spread media reports stating that the young girl had given birth to a second child. Although it is has been reported that the child and family agency Tusla has been granted a care order. That announcement follows earlier media reports which claim that Gardai have launched an investigation into the possibility of the 14 year old being the victim of statutory rape, However Gardaí have since distant themselves from these claims saying they were unable to confirm that investigation is underway.
A Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí are aware of a young person who presented at a maternity hospital in Dublin. We are liaising with Tusla on the case.” “It would be inappropriate to comment further.” Meanwhile a spokesperson for Tusla has said it could not comment on the media reports, and added that information about such cases is covered by child protection legislation.
