With the continuing and what many have called the scandalous rise in car insurance premiums, the Irish public have said they believe the Government should provide a car insurance scheme.
The public’s opinion was revealed after a poll was carried out by Amarach Research for RTÉ’s Clare Byrne Live. The poll saw 67% of Irish public say they feel the state should provided an adequate car insurance scheme, whilst 16% argued they were not in favour of such a proposal, and 17% said they didn’t know.
The latest poll was carried out after the Joint Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform recently reviewed the continuing hike in motor insurance premiums.
According to recent research the average cost of motor insurance has risen by 38% in the past year alone with some motorists seeing their premiums double or triple in price.
