Tributes have poured in for Caitriona Lucas, a mother-of-two children from Liscannor, County Clare.
The hero was bravely out on a search mission for a man who was missing from the area since last Friday. Caitriona and two other coast guards were in an inflatable boat which tragically overturned in a swell.
Social media users have posted touching tributes to the lady, some of whom knew her personally.
Marian Fitzpatrick Leneghan said:
“Met catriona in library last Thursday and met her enjoying herself at the spa last sat nite.spoke to her and told her my son had read his books already and I’d probably see her next Thursday can’t believe it. I will never forget the smile u gave me.lisdoon library won’t be the same without u.RIP”
While Frank Breslin posted:
“To everyone looking for a real hero this is one. Heros are not created by Marvel or DC Comics. Hero’s are real people like Caitriona Lucas. RIP a great loss to the world.”
Mrs Lucas, a Doolin coast guard volunteer, was a librarian for Clare County Council since the year 2000. She is survived by her husband Bernard and two children.
