As fans of The Late Late Toy Show contributed more over €4 million to the Toy Show Appeal, Saoirse Ruane was remembered, reports RTE.
Ireland has seen record donations to the Toy Show Appeal since it started in 2020, and this year is no exception.
Host Patrick Kielty revealed at the end of this year’s spectacular that viewers had contributed more than €4 million, increasing the fund’s total fundraising over the previous four years to nearly €25 million, reports RTE.
Saoirse Ruane from Kiltullagh, County Galway, who captured the hearts of the country with her 2020 appearance on The Late Late Toy Show, served as the inspiration for The Toy Show Appeal.
Although Saoirse tragically died away in March of this year, the RTÉ Toy Show Appeal honours her lasting impact.
At the beginning of a special performance that used the music from the film Wicked on Friday night’s event, a special Saoirse star stood atop the Toy event Christmas tree. You can see it below, reports RTE.
A financial award of up to €150,000 will be given to a selected charity this year in Saoirse’s honour.
RTÉ stated in a statement: “The Saoirse Ruane Grant can be utilised over a two-year period and will be awarded as part of the 2025 appeal allocations. The public can continue to donate by going to www.rte.ie/toyshowappeal, or with the appeal’s official donation partner, Revolut Pay,” reports RTE.
