A federal judge in the US has ruled that two diehard coffee lovers can go ahead with a lawsuit against Starbucks, after finding merit in their claims that Starbucks is leaving customers short-changed with their lattes.
The judge has ruled that the two plaintiffs, believed to be from the California area, may sue the coffee chain and seek compensation for years of under-filled latte cups.
The plaintiffs accuse Starbucks of fraud and false advertising, claiming that the chain is serving lattes that are 25% too small, according to a recipe that the company adopted back in 2009 with the goal of saving money on milk. They say that baristas are now systematically using measurements that leave a quarter of an inch empty in each latte serving.
Starbucks plans to refute such claims.
