In July 2007, Joe O’Reilly was convicted of murdering his wife 30-yr-old Rachel O’Reilly on October 4, 2004 in the Naul, North County Dublin.

The mother of two was beaten to death in a bedroom of her home. Rachel’s parents, Rose and Jim Callely sat at the back of the Court of Criminal Appeal this morning.

In 2007, a jury convicted him of his wife’s murder and in 2009 he lost an appeal against that conviction.

Joe O’Reilly is still maintaining his innocence and he now wants his case reviewed as an alleged miscarriage of justice on the basis that a new or newly discovered fact has come to light.

The State has indicated that it is now going to try get this latest appeal dismissed.
