There’s been a ‘significant decrease’ in newly arrived Ukrainian refugees as allowances set to be cut

According to Minister for Integration Roderic O’Gorman, there has been a notable decline in the number of persons coming to Ireland from Ukraine as the government gets ready to cut back on benefits for recently arrived refugees, reports Breaking News.

The TD for the Green Party predicted that the pattern would hold when social welfare benefits for recent immigrants living in state housing were cut.

The weekly fee would drop from €220 to €38.80, and the amount of time newly arrived people could stay in public housing would be limited to 90 days, reports Breaking News.

Since February 2022, more than 100,000 Ukrainians have come to the Republic.

According to O’Gorman, the adjustments have already affected the quantity of recent immigrants.

“We are already seeing a significant decrease in the number of people seeking temporary protection from Ukraine,” he told RTÉ’s Today With Claire Byrne show, reports Breaking News.
