The British Prime Minister will visit Northern Ireland and speak with DUP leader and Northern Ireland First Minister Arlene Foster as well as business leaders before giving a speech on the border situation.

Prime Minister May has promised to renegotiate the so-called ‘Irish backstop’ of the UK-EU withdrawal agreement. The Prime Minister abandoned the agreement she signed up to several months ago after a successful rebellion in Parliament by Brexiter Conservative MP’s and their DUP allies.

However, multiple EU officials including the Presidents of the Commission and Council as well as German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Macron have categorically ruled out any kind of renegotiation.

As it stands Brexit is set to take place on March 29th but with no renegotiation in sight, and therefore no deal set to go through Parliament, a no-deal Brexit has become a serious possibility.

Meanwhile, the EU Commission has made it clear that they will force Dublin to impose a hard border between the Republic and the North should a no-deal Brexit materialise.
