Retailers in the area are saying that if the government doesn’t do something quick smart, the entire street will end up being over run by drug addicts and criminals.
It’s without question one of the nicest streets in the world, never mind Ireland or even Europe.
Dublin’s O’Connell Street has beautiful architecture, a lovely long vista and nice shop fronts.
However, as of late, it’s become what has been described as a “no-go-area” where violence, thuggery and general anti-social behaviour such as fist fighting and drinking takes place on a daily basis.
Tourists are now advised by many people to steer clear of the area for fear of being harassed or attacked.
RTE’s Prime Time aired a documentary about it l last night at showing how bad the street has gotten.
Fights, drugs, anti-social behaviour was seen daily for the months that documentary was filming.
Many people are pointing the finger at the Minister for Justice Helen McEntee, claiming that she is completely out of her depth and is full of hot air.
