There have been calls for non-alcoholic products such as beers to be branded differently from their alcoholic alternatives.
The chief executive of Alcohol Action Ireland said there was a ‘proliferation of non-alcoholic products’ advertised on public transport, for example, and that this was against the rules of the Public Health Act in alcohol material.
Sheila Gilheany told RTÉ’s This Week that Alcohol Action Ireland wants companies to be banned from so-called ‘co-branding’, a practice which the advocacy group says allows soft drinks to be branded in the same way as their alcoholic alternatives for promotional purposes.
Ms Gilheany said the HSE is the body responsible for enforcing this legislation and she thinks it should take action.
He also said that if there is a problem with the law, it must be changed.
