Thieves used a JCB to try and break into an ATM machine in Cork




An investigation has been launched after thieves attempted to use a JCB front loader in a failed bid to break into a supermarket in Mallow, Co Cork, in an effort to access its ATM machine, reports Breaking News.

The incident is understood to have taken place shortly after 1.30am on Tuesday at a branch of SuperValu in Ballydahin, reports Breaking News.

Gardaí said the group tried to smash through the store’s steel security shutters in order to reach the ATM inside the premises, reports Breaking News.

However, the attempt was unsuccessful and the suspects fled the scene without gaining access to the machine, reports Breaking News.

An Garda Síochána has launched a full forensic examination of the JCB machinery and the ATM unit in an effort to recover evidence, reports Breaking News.

Investigators are also reviewing CCTV footage from the supermarket and surrounding businesses in order to identify those involved, reports Breaking News.

Gardaí will additionally examine any relevant footage from nearby premises that may assist the investigation, reports Breaking News.
