Leading experts, Professor Dame Sarah Gilbert and Sir John Bell claim that coronavirus will end up causing an illness as mild as the common cold, downplaying fears of a more deadly variant, adding that Britain is over the worst of it.
Professor Sir John Bell, a royal professor of medicine at the University of Oxford, said the virus could resemble the common cold in the spring of next year, as people’s immunity to the virus is enhanced by vaccines and exposure.
According to Sky, he added that the country “is over the worst” and things “should be fine” when winter ends, adding that even among those vaccinated, the virus remains exposed.
Meanwhile, Moderna CEO Stéphane Bancel said that the coronavirus pandemic could end in a year as increased vaccine production secures global supplies.
It comes as Professor Dame Sarah Gilbert, whose work helped develop the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine, said that viruses tend to get weaker as they spread.
