Garda numbers nationwide are expected to increase to about 15,000 by 2021, as recruitment drives are now underway.
It also emerged recently that people of different religious denominations may be allowed to wear garments pertinent to their religion, such as turbans and headscarves, in an effort to “increase diversity” in the force.
