Thousands march in Berlin against Covid-19 restrictions

Thousands of protestors took to the streets of Berlin on Saturday to protest the German government’s anti-Covid measures, including enforced face masks and social distancing.

According to police estimates some 17,000 people marched on the capital, with many chanting the slogan ‘We are Free People’ to the tune of Queen’s ‘We Will Rock You’. While the crowd drew people from across the political spectrum, a minority of participants displayed the black, white, and red flags of far-right German imperialism.

The march was organised by Michael Balweg, and outspoken entrepreneur planning to run for mayor in the south western city of Stuttgart. Germany has recorded 200,000 cases of Covid-19, with over 1000 deaths so far.
