Today, thousands of farmers gathered in Berlin to protest against higher taxes imposed on them.

The protesters arrived in tractors and trucks from all over Germany and blocked the avenue leading to the Brandenburg Gate.

They held up banners with slogans like “Without farmers, no future” and waved German flags, reports RTE.

The protests have become a flashpoint for anti-government anger and put pressure on the coalition led by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to address budget issues and contain right-wing groups.

During the protest, Germany’s Finance Minister Christian Lindner took to the stage to address the farmers.

However, he was met with jeers as he told them that there was no money for further subsidies.

“I can’t promise you more state aid from theGerman Finance Minister Christian Lindneret. But we can fight together for you to enjoy more freedom and respect for your work,” Mr Lindner told the crowd from a chilly stage in front of the Brandenburg Gate, reports RTE.
