Thousands of students will find out if they have been accepted by the college of their choice as CAO offers will be released later this afternoon.
It is understood that up to 78,000 students have applied for places at third level institutions this year.
However they some of those applications will have an anxious wait with 50,000 places on offer.
It is expected that there will be an increase in demand for some courses given this year’s calculated Leaving Certificate results.
The rise in applications has caused concern amongst prospective students as they fear there may be a points rise for entry into third level courses.
However the Department of Higher Education have moved to quash concerns by offering more places over the last number days.
