For the first time, a lady who allegedly caused the deaths of three people by baking a “poisoned” Christmas cake has been pictured, reports The Mirror.
On December 23, Zeli Terezinha Silva dos Anjos, 61, of Torres, southern Brazil, prepared a traditional Christmas cake for her family’s joyous supper. Sadly, her sisters Maida, 57, and Neuza, 65, as well as Neuza’s daughter Tatiana, 43, passed away soon after consuming the cake.
Tatiana and Maida died on the same day, while Neuza, who was critically injured when she was first sent to the hospital, died the next day. Zeli and a 10-year-old kid were among the three others who were admitted to the hospital after becoming unwell. Since then, it has been established that the three women’s corpses had residues of the hazardous element arsenic, reports The Mirror.
The first person admitted to the hospital after falling very unwell was Zeli, who is said to have had two portions of the cake. Both she and the 10-year-old, who is thought to be Tatiana’s son, are still in stable condition. Only one individual, who has not been identified, did not consume any of the cake at the family lunch.
Arsenic has already been discovered in the victims’ systems, but the Civil Police are still awaiting final findings to ascertain the precise cause of the deaths, according to Mirror UK, reports The Mirror.
Zeli’s spouse died in September from identical causes, allegedly food poisoning, and authorities are also starting a separate probe into his death.
Although Zeli has told the police, it is still unknown if the poisoning was done on purpose. Authorities think she may have disclosed information on the location and timing of the Bolo de Natal’s ingredient purchases. Zeli will be questioned more when she has recovered, reports The Mirror.
Both Tatiana and Maida died of cardiac arrests, according to the Hospital Nossa Senhora dos Navegantes de Torres, while Neuza died of “shock from food poisoning.”
A statement from local police to the local network Globo said: “We even have information that there was mayonnaise there that had expired a year ago. There were expired products in the residence. A bottle was found, a medicine, which should have had capsules inside it and there were no capsules – there was a white liquid and this white liquid will also be examined,” reports The Mirror.
