
In Limerick District Court, three active gardaĆ have appeared in relation to an inquiry into the purported squaring away of Fixed Charge Notices, reports RTE.
Detectives from Dublin’s Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation are in charge of the investigation.
The trio of defendants, Garda Garda Peter O’Donnell, 51 Garda Paul Baynham, 35, and The court heard that Niall Deegan, 49, a member of the Limerick Garda Division, was detained, warned, and placed under station bail to appear in district court at Mayorstone Garda Station last Tuesday.
During the late midday sitting, the three accused, each represented by Liz Hughes of Hughes Murphy Solicitors, Wellington Quay, Dublin, sat alone in the dock in courtroom number six while their cases were called, reports RTE.
The trio of defendants faced 33 charges alleging that during their tenure as An Garda SĆochĆ”na members, they engaged in communications with other gardaĆ that shown a propensity to taint the administration of justice, on dates ranging from 2017 to 2019.
According to the law, Garda O’Donnell, who was detained and charged at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, is accused of 14 distinct crimes that are against common law.
According to the law, Garda Baynham, who was taken into custody at 6:27 p.m. on the same day, faces 10 different charges, reports RTE.
According to the law, Garda Deegan, who was detained and charged at 6:02 p.m. on the same day, is accused of nine different offences.
According to Detective Inspector Mark Waters, GNBCI, each of the three accused gardaĆ “made no reply” to the accusations after he apprehended and charged them.
The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has ordered that all three of the accused gardaĆ appear in court for an indictment trial at Limerick Circuit Criminal Court, Detective Inspector Waters informed the court, reports RTE.
