Three thugs to be prosecuted over disgraceful Michaela McAreavey song

The Public Prosecution Service (PPS) in Northern Ireland has announced that three people will face legal action for performing a song that contains objectionable lyrics concerning Michaela McAreavey’s murder.

Following a police inquiry into a video of singing at an occasion held in a location in Dundonald, County Down, in May 2022 that was broadcast live on social media, seven people were submitted to the PPS for evaluation.

In the video, which was shot at Orange Hall, numerous males can be heard singing a song mourning Ms. McAreavey’s passing.

On January 10, 2011, the instructor, 27, was suffocated in her room at the Legends Hotel in Mauritius.

After returning to her room by herself and causing a break-in, Ms. McAreavey—who had wed her husband John 10 days earlier—was attacked.

Mickey Harte’s daughter was murdered, but no one has been found guilty of the crime.

Across the political spectrum in Northern Ireland and elsewhere, the film received widespread condemnation.

Senior public prosecutor John O’Neill said: “The test for prosecution was applied carefully and impartially to the evidence reported in relation to each of the seven suspects investigated by police. After a thorough consideration of all evidence, it was concluded that there is a reasonable prospect of conviction in relation to three of those reported. Accordingly, proceedings will soon be commenced,” reports RTE.

He added: “The footage captures lyrics which are a deeply offensive portrayal of a tragic and distressing event. I have informed the McAreavey and Harte families of the outcome of the PPS consideration of those reported and, where there was a decision not to prosecute, provided detailed written reasons,” reports RTE.
