A man has been convicted guilty of murder after attacking his neighbour with a machete and left him with injuries so severe that dental records were required to identify him, reports Breaking News.
It took the jury little over five hours to reject Patrick McDonagh’s argument that his acute bout of schizophrenia significantly reduced his guilt for the “brutal” crime.
The prosecution said throughout the two-week trial at the Central Criminal Court that McDonagh’s symptoms, which he had described to psychiatrists, were proof of “malingering” and that, in the unlikely event that there was a mental aberration, it would be caused by cannabis usage.
McDonagh, who used a machete and a knife to stab, slice, and hack his 73-year-old victim Peter McDonald, will get a term of life imprisonment, reports Breaking News.
