One person has been shot dead and five others have been seriously injured in a shooting at a New York City subway station, police have confirmed.
The shooting happened during the evening commute at a station in the Bronx, police say.
The man who died was aged in his 30s and was travelling on the subway.
“The train was coming and there were two kids yelling,” witness Efrain Feliciano, 61, told the Daily News in NYC. “There were at least six shots.”
“I saw sparkles as the bullets hit the wall,” Mr Feliciano said. “A woman was holding a child screaming.”
American news coverage showed a subway train stopped at the station and orange evidence cones on the elevated platform at the station.
Police say that no one had been taken into custody and a manhunt had been launched to find the suspect.
