Thug in Cork who carried out “grudge” attack gets jailed for 5 years

A father-of-five who carried out an axe attack on a man in his 50s because his girlfriend had a grudge against him in a “misguided sense of chivalry” has been jailed for five years, reports Breaking News.

Cork Circuit Criminal Court heard that the victim in this case suffered a fractured skull, broken teeth and facial bones as a result of the incident last year.

Judge Colin Daly was told that David Long, of Leitrim Street, Cork, called his then-girlfriend’s cousin’s house in the city’s Middle Glanmire Road on the evening of January 18, 2022.

His then-girlfriend was there. At this point for about an hour.

In this incident, the victim opened the door for Long. The 39-year-old attacker’s face was covered with a scarf and his hood was up. He had an axe in his bag, reports Breaking News.

In a victim impact statement, the injured man said he was subjected to a “terrifying, savage, beating” which happened in the “sanctuary” of his home.

He indicated that he was hospitalized for a month due to a severe jaw injury.

“I was on a liquid diet for a month. It was a nightmare. Life is supposed to get easier as you get older but now it is more complicated. It was a terrifying savage beating,” reports Breaking News.
