Thug jailed for attacked visually impaired man and 79-yr-old man in his home

A guy was sentenced to 10 years in prison, with an additional eighteen months suspended, for attacking and robbing a visually challenged man and then participating in a second, more serious break-in at the residence of an elderly widower, reports RTE.

At Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, 48-year-old Derek Bewley, who was residing in a tent at the time of his arrest, entered a guilty plea and received a sentence.

In connection with the same occurrences, his partner at the time, Christine Ward, 36, of Little Britain Street, Dublin 7, was sentenced to eight and a half years in prison last month, reports RTE.

The 56-year-old man with 25% eyesight was attacked by Bewley and Ward on November 2, 2018, at 5:20 p.m., on North William Street in Dublin’s city centre, according to testimony given to the court.

The victim was repeatedly stabbed and forced back into a laneway during the five to ten minute attack, which also caused an iPhone to fall out of his pocket.

The victim’s face was gouged and his right hand was covered in blood, according to testimony given in court. The attacker didn’t stop until a bystander called out that gardaí were approaching, reports RTE.

CCTV video identified Bewley.
