Thug with almost 200 previous convictions finally gets jailed for spate of robberies

A court characterised the recent wave of robberies committed by a guy with 180 prior convictions as a “significant escalation” in his criminal activity, earning him a prison sentence, reports Breaking News.

At Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, 44-year-old Stephen O’Reilly of Upper Churchtown Road, Dublin, entered a guilty plea for robbing two garages in May 2021 and making an attempt to rob a Spar store the following month.

He also acknowledged to driving without insurance or a licence on April 4, 2020, and to a public order charge related to an altercation with two other individuals near Churchtown Road.

On Tuesday, Judge Orla Crowe handed down a sentence totaling four years and eight months, with the last six months to be suspended under stringent guidelines.

She said that by attending the scene and driving while ineligible, O’Reilly “involved himself in something he should not have” and had displayed “lawless behaviour” during the public order event, reports Breaking News.

A clinical evaluation that was given in court states that O’Reilly has recurrent hospitalisations for problems including self-harm and overdose since the age of sixteen. He also suffers from significant depression and anxiety disorders.

Of O’Reilly’s prior convictions, which stretch back to 1996, the court was informed that 99 of them were tried by the Circuit Court and were mostly related to traffic crimes, including nine instances of reckless driving.

O’Reilly received a nine-year prison sentence in the UK for reckless driving that resulted in injury. He lost his driving privileges for twenty years, reports Breaking News.
