The unmannned Tiangong-1 space station burned up in Earth’s atmosphere over the South Pacific earlier today, thus ending a saga that began in 2016 when the craft ceased functioning.
Most of Tiangong-1 (‘Heavenly Palace’) did not survive re-entry, though scientists say small pieces of hardened debris may fall on remote ocean areas.
A number of agencies tracking Tiangong’s orbit confirmed the point of re-entry over the South Pacific.
