In opposition to the hotel Racket Hall’s choice to house 160 applications for international protection, about fifty people have congregated outside the establishment on the outskirts of Roscrea, County Tipperary, reports RTE.

The Department of Integration notified local members and TDs yesterday that Racket Hall would offer temporary emergency housing for anyone applying for international protection for a year.

People from the area have congregated outside the building, claiming that the community can no longer accommodate anyone applying for refugee status, reports RTE.

Up to 400 asylum seekers are being housed at the town’s convent, while a further 200 are being housed in the former Sean Ros Abbey.

The assembled individuals declare that “enough is enough” and that the town’s services are overburdened.

They claim that asylum seekers are now staying in town’s one and only motel, reports RTE.
