Today’s the day – Large numbers expected at the High Court today as Gemma O’Doherty and John Waters challenge lockdown legislation

Today is there day where things are about to get very interesting in the High Court. A large crowd is expected to descend onto the Four Courts to throw their support behind Gemma O’Doherty and John Waters.

There’s big numbers of supporters expected to get behind Gemma O’Doherty and John Waters as they attend the High Court tomorrow. It’s understood that there will be a garda presence in attendance also at the Four Courts.

Following the widespread shock, disgust and anger amongst the public at the apparent heavy-handed use of force by members of An Garda Síochána while detaining a man who was fishing in a rural area with his young daughter there has been renewed support for Gemma O’Doherty.

The man was physically restrained and arrested by a large number of Gardai for allegedly breaching the stay at home restrictions.

Some online have quipped that she should have proclaimed that he was from Northern Ireland or was imported into Ireland as cheap foreign labour as both groups of people are seemingly exempt from any Covid-19 restrictions.

Journalist Gemma O’Doherty and author John Waters have launched a legal challenge against the government over the imposition of draconian lockdown measures which are ostensibly designed to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.

It is the contention of O’Doherty and Waters and their supporters that the Orwellian powers the State has granted itself are unconstitutional and last Tuesday they won the right to a High Court hearing in regard to their legal challenge.

At the judicial review of the proceedings brought by Gemma O’Doherty and John Waters against the State took place a large number of Gardai set up barriers outside to control the dozens of citizens who came out on support of the legal challenge against the government.

In an ironic twist, numerous members of the press, from outlets overtly hostile to the former Irish Independent and her legal action, crowded together outside the court without masks in a flagrant violation of the self-isolation and social distancing rules they so eagerly defend.
