Cork’s Paul O’Donovan and Fintan McCarthy have written their names into the history books after winning Gold in the men’s lightweight double sculls final in Tokyo.
The Irish pair were favourites going into the final and managed to best Germany who had pushed them all the way to the end by finishing second with Italy finishing a distant third.
The two have returned to their native Cork to what has been described as a hero-type welcome with young and old cheering them on as they made their way through the county.
