Tony Blair calls for the world to introduce vaccine passports

The former British Prime Minister Tony Blair has said that the world needs to agree to some form of a Covid-19 vaccine passport.

Speaking to The Daily Mail newspaper, the former Prime Minister said that over 120 countries are already calling for a negative PCR test result upon arrival into their country and he claims that current measures will naturally gravitate towards Covid-19 passports once the roll-out of vaccine ramps up across the world.

Blair told the paper that a vaccine passport or certificate is needed as we can’t stay in lockdown forever and people need to know whether or not they are mixing with others who may be carrying the disease or not.

He went on to tell The Daily Mail, that the idea of a passport is not about discrimination or hostility towards those who aren’t vaccinated but a case of people knowing who they came into contact with.

The former Prime Minister told the paper that Britain should lead the way on such an initiative and that the idea was nothing new given that there are already other countries who require proof for other diseases such as yellow fever.

Blair went on to say that a number of countries have led the calls for such a system as well as those in the aviation sector

He added that we the world need to act now as the arguments against the idea don’t really add up.
