Losing control: Top advisor to Irish government slags off Lidl antigen test kits tweeting “Can I get some snake oil with that? … These antigen tests will not keep you safe.” But the test kits still sell out over the weekend.

The Chairperson of the National Public Health Emergency Team, Professor Philip Nolan tweeted last week about the new Lidl antigen tests. According to the Irish Mirror, Nolan tweeted:

“Can I get some snake oil with that?
It makes for a great salad dressing with a pinch of salt and something acerbic. Stay safe when socialising outdoors over the weekend. Small numbers, distance, masks.
“These antigen tests will not keep you safe.”

Lidl Ireland CEO JP Scally defended the sale of the antigen tests in their stores.

Mr Scally said the price of €24.99 for a pack of five tests was the most competitive on the market as the cheapest elsewhere was €10 for one test. He said he had heard of people buying them online for €100 per test reports BreakingNews.ie
