Top toys of the 1970’s Do you remember these?




It is Christmas morning and the kids at happily opening their presents brought to them by Santy, and that got us thinking what were the best toys of your generation. The 70’s was a great time for some and few toys from that era prompted some great ideas of today, so if you were a 70’s child you might remember some of these classic gems…

1.Barbie

Probably one of the biggest brands that is still around today with almost every little girl having one at some stage of their lives, the doll that change the world was a revolutionary invention that had all girls entertained for hours making up a number of make belief stories in a barbie world.

2.Crayola Crayon

Not really a toy this one but still a classic as a number of kids were kept entertained all day colouring in pictures of any scene imaginable. They made little artists of every child back in the day.

3.Etch-A-Sketch


The 1970’s tablet of sorts was a more expensive toy to purchase back then but it was an invention that probably sphere headed some of the bigger technical items we see today. The rectangular red board with two knobs took drawing to a different level as kids were able to draw square like images without the use of crayons or pencils. Although it was heavily slated for its lack of creativity when it came to drawing different shapes, Etch-A-Sketch was still way ahead of its time and kept many children and adults entertained for hours on end.

4.Evel Knievel

The stunt man that was every boy’s hero has major success throughout the 70’s as Evel Knievel toys were under many Christmas trees ready to get into all sort of stunts across the living room floor on Christmas morning. Although they were discontinued a short time later, these toys most certainly had a special place in the hearts of little boys
throughout the 70’s.

5.Lego

Although they were a pain for every parent who stepped on them on Christmas morning, this still popular toy was “A new toy every day!” The tiny blocks of magic allowed kids everywhere to create anything imaginable from robots, to buildings.

6.Mastermind

“Easy to learn. Easy to play. But not so easy to win.”
You have to give Invicta credit. This British plastics company took what was essentially a measuring stick for brainiacs and turned it into one of the most popular games to come out of the 1970’s.

7.Mouse Trap

“A game of zany action on a crazy contraption!” The game that involved quick with and clever planning saw players come up a number of Zany was to capture the ever allusive mouse kept the whole family amused and laughing for hours on end.

8.Rebound

Basically, Rebound was a miniaturized board-game version of shuffleboard. Just the same, there was a twist to this game of shuffleboard: the board was split down the middle by a wall. The player launched one of four pucks up the right side, carefully angling the shot so it would “rebound” off a pair of angled rubber bands at the top of the board. A proper shot bounced the puck down the other side of the board.

9.Stretch Armstrong

The ultimate boys toy was marketing genius as he could be stretched to any length in any direction before returning to its normal size!” Stretch Armstrong kept boys and some girls entertained for hours as they could Bend him, pull him, twist him, tie him in a knot, without ever breaking him.

10.Tonka Trucks

Last but not least the ever reliable Tonka Trucks, the toy that was built to last through the test of time, the Tonka truck proved to be real value for money for parents of young boys in the 70’s, because were built for inside and an outside, they’re were sturdy and virtually unbreakable. There are plenty of moving parts, but not a lot of separable parts, so there’s no need to worry about things getting lost. They were the ultimate boy’s toy as they could be smashed into almost anything and still be in tact, from cement trucks to tippers these steel toys created many of fantasy construction sites back in the day.
