It is the news Toy Story fans across the world have been waiting for. Woody and his friends are returning for a new adventure in Toy Story 4 which is being made at this very moment. In the new film Woody and his faithful companion Buzz go on an adventure to find the one toy who was given away-Bo Peep.
Tom Hanks is back as the voice of Woody while Tim Allen returns as the voice of Buzz Lightyear. Joan Cusack returns as cowgirl Jessie and Bo Peep is to be voiced once more by Annie Potts. They are sure to be joined by their many friends made since the first one hit our screens (wait for it) a staggering 20 years ago in 1995.
Many kids who watched the original have lived its story for real as they progressed to adulthood and gave up their toys.The films are a rarity in that they are enjoyed by young and old alike and are as quotable as such films as ‘Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure’ and ‘Wayne’s World.’ Who does not recognise the line: ‘To Infinity and Beyond’ Such characters as Mr Potato Head, Rex, Hamm and Slinky Dog stood out and we were even treated to Barbie and Ken making an appearance.
The news about Toy Story 4 was officially confirmed by Woody himself, Tom Hanks, on the recent Graham Norton show. He explained that he had already left the makers in a tizzy as he was not meant to speak about it but shrugged his shoulders on the show about this. He is the star after all!
He said, “We are now recording Toy Story 4 and it will be out in 2018 as it takes a long time to do. We are working on it right now. I have a recording session on 2nd December.”
The Toy Story franchise has been very lucrative and has a huge following. They broke new ground in animation and the characters are instantly recognizable. Toy Story was actually the first feature length CGI animated film ever made.
In the first one in 1995 a cowboy doll is profoundly threatened and jealous when a new spaceman figure supplants him as top toy in a boy’s room. The characters quickly captured hearts. Toy Story 2 followed in 1999 and in this Woody is stolen by a toy collector and his friends vow to rescue him. Toy Story 3 did not come for another 11- years in 2010. In this one the toys are mistakenly delivered to a day-care center instead of the attic right before Andy leaves for college, and it’s up to Woody to convince the other toys that they weren’t abandoned and to return home.
It means that there will be an eight-year gap between Toy Story 3 and Toy Story 4 that comes out in 2018. We are sure that it will be worth the wait!
