There has ben some sad news announced in the past hour as Gardaí confirmed that 13-year-old boy tragically died after drowning in the River Liffey this afternoon.
Gardaí say the young teen tragically lost his life after he entered the river at approximately 2.30pm between Islandbridge and Chapelizod. It is understood the boy got into difficulties and was unable to be rescued.
Reports say the garda sub-aqua team attended the scene immediately but we’re unable to save him and they subsequently retrieved the teenager’s body from the water at around 4pm.
The boy’s body remains have since been transferred to St James’ Hospital were a post mortem will take place.
