Gardaí in Co Westmeath have sadly confirmed that a man has died after he was removed from the River Shannon last night.

It is understood the man was pulled from the river between Castle and Sean’s Bar in Athlone Town at approximately 11:30pm last night.
Gardaí say the man aged in his 30s was quickly taken to Portiuncula hospital, but he was sadly pronounced dead a short time later.
