Sad news this evening, as singer-songwriter Colin Vearncombe has died, following a car crash in Co. Cork two weeks ago.

A statement released about the tragic event read: “We’re deeply saddened to announce the death of Colin Vearncombe (aka Black) earlier today, Tuesday 26th January 2016. Colin never regained consciousness following a road traffic accident sixteen days ago. He died peacefully surrounded by his family who were singing him on his way.”

Vearncombe had been involved in a serious car accident while driving from his home in Schull to Cork Airport on January 10th. He sustained serious head injuries and was put in an induced coma at Cork University Hospital.

Originally from Liverpool, he achieved international fame in 1987 with the single Wonderful Life.

Though he never quite achieved similar commercial success, he would go on to release 14 albums as Black and under his own name.

He passed away peacefully in hospital today, having never regained consciousness. He was 53 years of age.
