An off-duty garda has received great praise for his heroics after he bravely apprehended an armed robber during a raid in a shop in Stoneybatter in Dublin.
It is believed that the incident happened at approximately 1.30pm yesterday afternoon when the off-duty Garda, entered the shop as armed the robbery was taking place. Sources say the off-duty officer immediately identified himself as a member of An Garda Síochána which resulted in him being subsequently threatened by the man, who proceeded to hold him at gunpoint.
Although, thankfully the officer somehow managed to successfully disarm the assailant and placed him under arrest until local gardaí arrived at the scene. The assailant was subsequently arrested and a firearm and a large kitchen knife were recovered at the scene.
