Tragic: Three young friends killed in Co. Down road accident

The three young men killed in a car crash yesterday in Co. Down have been named. The victims have been named as Peter Hughes, 19, from Dromintee, County Armagh, Conall Havern, 20, from Crieve Road in Newry, County Down, and Gavin Sloan, 20, from Attical, County Down.

The accident occurred on the A1 dual carriageway between Dromore and Banbridge. The men lost their lives when the red Vauxhall Corsa in which they were travelling was in a collision with a black Volkswagen Tiguan.

It is understood the young men were students at Queen’s University, Belfast. A family friend said the that they had been in Belfast over the weekend to move their belongings into their new student accommodation.

The road reopened early on this morning. A woman was also hurt in the accident and taken to hospital. Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. Police are urging witnesses to the crash to contact them.
