Danny Sheehy, also known as Danny an tSíthigh or Domhnall Mac Síthigh, well known in his native Kerry as a poet and boatmaker has sadly died following an accident in Spain.
Sheehy was thrown overboard along with three others yesterday afternoon when their naomhóg overturned, according to RTE.
The accident occurred at the mouth of the river Minho, where the border of Spain and north Portugal meet.
The four men were able to swim ashore but tragically Mr Sheehy fell ill and died after the incident.
The other members of the crew were singer Liam Ó Maonlaí, musician Brendán Ó Beaglaíoch, and Padraig Ó Duinnín.
They were all taken to the local hospital for treatment but are understood not to have sustained serious injury.
